The Beijing-based Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) Art Museum is launching its first biennale, entitled CAFAM, with the aim of becoming one of the best biennales in China, according to Wang Huangsheng, director of the museum.
The biennale will invite artists and art critics from around the world to discuss a range of art theories and social issues through exhibitions and forums, Wang said.
The theme of this year's biennale is "Super-organism", around which four issues, "Super-machine", "Super-urbanity", "Super-body" and "Bio-politics" will be fully explored in four different sections.
More than 30 artists from numerous countries around the world, including the US, France, Denmark, South Africa and Korea, will participate in the biennale in September. A wide range of their works will be shown in the different sections.
"We hope to offer art lovers a chance to enjoy the most avant-garde art from around the globe, and in the meantime to conduct academic research on current artistic trends and creations," Wang told the Global Times.
From May to September four forums will be held, with experts on literature, art, music and other areas from both China and abroad focusing on the four issues the biennale intends to address.
