To promote the coming Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival, the world's longest 3D paining, featuring an eye-catching dragon boat, was on a 10-day exhibition starting from Friday at Hong Kong's Harbor City.
The 60.46-meter painting, named "leaping dragon", also set the Guinness World Record as the longest 3-D painting in the world. It is created by the mainland artist Michael Qi, who has painted over 20 large-scale 3D murals since 2005.
When the June 17-19 Carnival starts, another giant dragon boat would make its appearance, attempting to break another world record, said James Tien, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), while addressing the media Friday afternoon.
The carnival, first held in 2010, was organized by the HKTB together with the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association.
The 2011 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races would take place during the carnival, which attracted nearly 200 local and foreign teams, including new participants from Canada, Japan, and the European countries.
"We hope this mega summer event for both visitors and local residents will not just increase the appeal of Hong Kong during the summer season, but also further enhance the publicity of the city," said Tien.
To add more fun to the carnival, a 10-paddler dragon boat will be introduced into the event, allowing more participants to experience the dragon boat activities.
