After almost a month since rumors began spreading about her demanding spending habits, which followed a shocking divorce from Nicholas Tse, Cecilia Cheung has finally broken her silence and spoken to a reporter at the Hong Kong Oriental Daily News to set the record straight. By telephone, Cheung told the reporter that it was Tse who was behind the nasty rumors that made her seem greedy, overbearing and imprudent.

Reporter: Why do you think Tse made up rumors about you?

Cheung: I have been married to him for five years and have known him since he was 18 until now, when he is 31. How could I not know who he is? We see him wearing sunglasses all day. I once asked him why. He said that when wearing them, no one knows whether he is speaking the truth or telling lies. So he should really be crowned Best Leading Actor!

Reporter: Is there any real reason that made you believe that Tse was the one who made up the rumors about you, besides having known him [for so long]?

Cheung: There are a lot of things that only we know; there is no third party that knows these things. Nicholas and [his mother] Deborah have always had a not-so-good relationship – Nicholas didn't even thank her when he receive his Best Leading Actor award. The next day Deborah complained to Cha Xiaoxin [a famous Hong Kong radio and TV host] and then stopped talking to us. Thus, Deborah knew nothing about my move to Parkview and how much I pay monthly for the apartment. But how would Cha know? It is obvious who told her.

Reporter: It has been almost a month now since Cha received the tips. There has been so much negative news. Why haven't you explained?

Cheung: The reason I have been keeping silent is for the family. I do really not want two sons growing up in a broken family or single-parent family. But Nicholas didn't realize this. He kept on spreading rumors up until I boarded my flight last night. I can't tolerate it anymore and I feel it is necessary to stand up and tell the truth.

Reporter: Have you talked to Tse?

Cheung: I haven't been able to reach him for the past few months. I called his assistant before I boarded to tell him I could no longer bear the rumors. Many things are only known by Nicholas and me. I have to reveal his mask and tell you what kind of person Nicholas is. Do not think he is a good man, a good father.

Reporter: What kind of father do you think Tse is?

Cheung: He rarely plays with his two sons. To Nicholas, they are just like they are transparent at home. He just wants me to be trapped by sons and he doesn't like children.

Reporter: What was Tse's reaction when you told his assistant you couldn't take the rumors anymore [and that you were going to set the record straight]?

Cheung: He said on the telephone, "You can try. I have prepared so long to make your image so bad. See who they believe."

Reporter: Were you pushed to your limits by this statement?

Cheung: Yes. Because of it, I decided not to suffer in silence and speak out clearly.

Reporter: Why did Tse attack you?

Cheung: Because he didn't want me to share his fortune, the rumors make me seem very greedy for money. But the fact is totally different and I don't need to rely on him. Money is not so important for me. I have money now; there is no problem for me.

Reporter: Under the circumstances, have you made the decision to divorce?

Cheung: I suffered and kept silent for so long just for this family and our two sons. Right now, I just want to uncover the true face of Nicholas Tse.
