Dou Wei, the legendary former rock star, is back with his signature sound in the theme song of Peter Chan's upcoming kung fu movie, "Wu Xia".

Dou Wei has written, produced and performed the song "Lost in Jianghu" ("Mi Zou Jianghu"). Critics say the song has shades of one of Dou's best received albums, "Dark Dreams", which he released in 1994.

In 1988, Dou Wei joined the band Black Panther, which later became one of the most influential rock bands in China. He reached his career peak in the mid-1990s. But as his music tastes changed, his focus in recent years has been on electronic and ambient music.

"Lost in Jianghu" saw Dou Wei's return as a singer. The lyrics portray a man who pursues freedom and relief from his dark past, echoing the protagonist of the film "Wu Xia".

Director Peter Chan describes the song "a rock version of sutra."

In "Wu Xia", Donnie Yen plays a martial artist whose tranquil village life is threatened following the arrival of a detective who is determined to uncover his past. Takeshi Kaneshiro plays the detective.

The film will open in Chinese theaters on July 4.
