To commemorate the centenary of the birth of the great Chinese scientist Qian Xuesen, a biopic named after Qian is expected to be synchronously released in China and the U.S., according to a report on Mtime.com.

Produced by Huang Jianxin and directed by Zhang Jianye, the movie, "Qian Xuesen," starring Chen Kun and Zhang Yuqi, is currently in its post-production stages. The little-known work that Qian carried out in America and the struggles that he and his wife Jiang Ying faced in everyday life are featured in the movie, which has caught the attention of a host of local distributors.

"Qian Xuesen" is the major project of the Western Movie Group in 2011, and it is strongly recommended by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and the Sate Administration of Radio Film and Television.

An employee within the Western Movie Group revealed that negotiations with AMC, the largest chain of cinemas in the U.S., and with the American video website Hulu, regarding the movie's copyright are drawing to a close. The movie is expected to be released in MIT, where Qian carried out his studies, and other regions across America.

2011 has so far been the year for Chinese movies going global. With reports that director Zhang Yimou's epic war blockbuster, "The Flowers of War", is set to join the competition at next year's Academy Awards, and with the recent news that Jet Li's latest action fantasy flick, "The Sorcerer and the White Snake," topped the international box office chart, more and more domestic productions will no doubt be introduced to global audiences in the very near future.
