Oscar winners Tim Robbins and Adrien Brody will join the cast of Chinese director Feng Xiaogang's famine-themed epic film "1942", according to Variety.com.

The production company responsible for the project, Huayi Brothers, has confirmed that Adrien Brody will portray a reporter from "Time" magazine, while Tim Robbins will play a priest.

The film started shooting in October, but the names of the two international stars had been kept in dark until today.

Actor-director Tim Robbins is well known by Chinese audiences for his role in "The Shawshank Redemption". He won an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in "Mystic River".

"The Pianist" star Adrien Brody is the youngest best actor winner in the history of the Oscars.

Penned by Liu Zhenyun and produced by Chen Kuo-fu, "1942" tells the stories of a famine that happened in central China in 1942.

The film will include a collection of domestic celebrity heavyweights including Zhang Guoli, Chen Daoming, Zhang Hanyu and Li Xuejian, among others.

The release date has not yet been confirmed.
