The exhibition, titled The Way From Art to Heart, "Inter-view," collected masterpieces by contemporary Chinese artists Qiu Ting, who specializes in mountain and water scenes, and Xu Jianwei, who specializes in flowers and birds. Both artists were born in 1971. The exhibition was planned by Wu Hongliang, the curator of the Art Museum of the Beijing Fine Art Academy and a well-known critic in Chinese art circles.

Having curated numerous art exhibitions in the past few years, Wu decided to take a different approach for this latest display.

He chose to challenge the orthodox method of simply having visitors appreciate wall-mounted, framed artworks. Instead, audiences and artists alike are returned to the traditional method of appreciating Chinese paintings. Invited audience members are able to interact with both the artists and curators, affording them the opportunity to discuss the artworks over tea. Reservations must be made in advance, and only a few guests are invited each day.

According to Wu, the exhibition offers art lovers an all-too-rare opportunity.

"I have been working for a museum for many years and I know that most art fans have few opportunities to communicate with artists directly. Therefore, I tried to bring them together to have closer discussions," said Wu.

He added: "This kind of exhibition is more like a traditional Chinese literati's salon. When an artist or a poet created a new piece of work, he or she would like to invite several good friends to enjoy it together. "

Wu commented that the exhibition was experimental in nature, and that he would canvas opinion later to find out whether or not audiences found the experience worthwhile. He also stated that he plans to invite future audiences to enjoy Western art works in the same traditional Chinese manner.

The exhibition will run until November 29.
