Pop singer Show Luo has been named by PETA Asia as its "Person of the Year".

The animal rights organization is lauding Luo for using his star power to raise awareness about helping animals in need.

Luo says that his parents taught him to respect and love animals when he was young, "My mother, up until now, would still go feed the stray dogs or cats at her usually spot. I don't want my mother to go out every night, because despite horrible weather conditions, she would go out with an umbrella to feed these dogs and cats."

Luo has spent close to 650-thousand US dollars to buy a piece of land in northern Taiwan for the construction of an animal shelter.

He explained, "You have to let these dogs know that they're safe, secure, happy and won't have any more worries, because someone will take care of them. They won't be bully anymore. I think that will create security for the dogs."

Show Luo is also encouraging animal lovers to adopt, rather than buying pets.
