On the last day of 2011, Giddens' 'You Are the Apple of My Eye' broke the record as the highest grossing Chinese-language film ever released in Hong Kong.

The youth drama from Taiwan has taken HK$61,295,651 ($7.89 million) after 73 days in cinemas. The record was previously held by Stephen CHOW's 'Kung Fu Hustle' (2004), with HK$61,278,697.

Its success has led to fierce bidding for Hong Kong rights to The Soul of Bread, the new film starring Apple's lead actress Michelle CHEN. The drama opens in Taiwan on 3 Feb. She next stars in Zero CHOU's 'Scarlet'.

In Taipei, Apple has so far made NT$180.1 million ($5.94 million). Although reliable nationwide box office figures are not available in Taiwan, it is estimated to have made approximately NT$410 million ($13.53 million) island-wide.

Apple was the second-highest grossing local film in Taiwan in 2011, runner-up to 'Warriors of the Rainbow I: Sun Flag', the first episode in WEI Te-sheng's war epic, which made NT$198.0 million ($6.53 million) in Taipei.

Apple opens in China on 6 Jan 2012.
