"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2" and "Bridesmaids" were the big winners in the North American film industry in 2011.
The finale of the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's wizard fantasy grossed US$381 million in North America last year, topping other well-performing blockbusters including "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1" and "The Hangover 2" in terms of box office numbers.

Apart from its North American success, the wizard boy's last chapter on the silver screens also gained a total of US$947.1 million from millions of its affectionate fans in other countries worldwide, who flocked to the theaters to see the showdown between the boy hero Potter and his arch nemesis Lord Voldemort.
However, in terms of critics' reception, "Potter" was no match for the highly praised "Bridesmaids." The American comedy reached a 90 percent rating on movie review site RottenTomatoes.com, a definite high when evaluating the quality of a movie.
The intriguing female friendship story garnered US$169.1 million in North America, registering an approximately five-fold growth after its first-week receipts. The accolade made it a favorite of North American movie critics.
As for the major studios, Paramount surpassed Warner Bros. to become the No. 1 film producer in terms of box office performance. Its 15 films last year generated more than US$1.8 billion, about US$70 million higher than the Warner Bros.' 20 movies.
