2. A Simple Life
Hong Kong drama "A Simple Life", directed by Ann Hui and starring Andy Lau and Deanie Ip, is a touching art film that tells the heartwarming story of a dying old lady's last days.
Ip plays a domestic maid Sister Peach who copes with the problems brought by her advancing years while her old master Roger Lee, played by Lau, returns her years of service by nursing her right up until her death. The special relationship between the pair will likely melt even the hardest of hearts, thanks to the powerful performances delivered by Deanie Ip and Andy Lau.
The film has already started to collect honors. It was named best film at the 18th Annual Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards. Taiwan's 48th Golden Horse Awards saw director Ann Hui win best director, while Andy Lau won best actor and Deanie Ip took the best actress gong. Ip also won the Best Actress Award at the 68th Venice International Film Festival.
