The Actor Committee of China Radio and Television Association issued a statement on Sept. 17 condemning Japan's behavior regarding the disputed Diaoyu Islands, expressing absolute support for the Chinese government in the matter.

The nonprofit organization, chaired by renowned actor Tang Guoqiang, comprises about 260 actors from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, including Chow Yun-fat, Jay Chow, Donnie Yen, Chow Wah Kin, Li Bingbing and Fan Bingbing, among many others.

The statement said that Japan's attempt to purchase the Diaoyu Islands is "a serious violation of Chinese territory sovereignty and the International Treaty, and a provocation to China." Japanese acts "do not only damage Sino-Japan relationships but also are harmful to world peace."

"The Actor Committee expresses their great anger over [the matter] and condemns Japan [for its actions]," the statement added.

The Actor Committee also said in the statement that China has undisputed historical and legal evidence of its sovereignty over the islands and the committee absolutely supports the Chinese government's actions to protect its territorial integrity.
