Passing of Chinese traditional cultural giants

Famous " Red Chamber" researcher and scholar Zhou Ruchang died at home on May 31, 2012 at the age of 95. Born in north China's Tianjin City in 1918, Zhou was a leading scholar during the foundation of the People's Republic of China in 1949, and authored the study of "Dream of the Red Chamber," one of China's Four Great Classical Novels.
On Sept. 5, 2012, famous writer Huang Chang died at the age of 93. The cultural giant was also famous book collectors and critic.
Nan Huai-Chin, a cultural master who held deep insights of ancient I Ching, Chinese culture and Buddhism, died on Sept. 29 at the age of 95, and during his lifetime greatly influenced both Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
The deaths of so many great Chinese thinkers have left many people wondering how China's society will develop over the coming years and decades.
