Recording artist Karen Mok is making her first attempt to break into the international market with her debut English jazz album, "Somewhere I Belong".
Mok says she believes it will be easier to break into new markets with jazz, "I think jazz is probably something that could cross borders a lot easier. So especially this is an album from China, made in Shanghai and done by musicians here. I think there are less boundaries for us in jazz to be able to reach out to the bigger audience."
The album has included some classic hits such as "Love for Sale" and "The Man I Love", as well as reinterpreted pop songs like "Wicked Games", and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
She has also included two Chinese tracks on the album, one of which is an original composition written by her.
With a career that has spanned over 20 years, Mok has released 15 Chinese-language albums, on top of starring in over 40 feature films.
She is also a two-time winner of Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards for Best Female Artist.
Mok is the first Asian female artist to star on a Broadway show, when she was cast as Mimi in the 10th Anniversary Asian Tour of "Rent".
She was also the first celebrity in Asia to launch her own fragrance and lingerie brand.
