Pop diva Faye Wong became involved in a new controversy on September 23 about whether she was really divorced when the Civil Affairs Bureau of Urumqi denied the existence of an official procedure, saying "we have not dealt with Faye Wong and Li Yapeng's divorce procedure."
However, Urumqi's Sayibak District Court told China News Service yesterday that the couple did in fact file their divorce there.
The court said that Li's household registration is still in Sayibak District, so the lawyers first filed the case at the local court. The couple went to the court on the morning of September 23. The court mediated according to law, and after the couple insisted on divorce, the court approved.
A staff worker at the court told China News Service that the two had applied for secrecy, to avoid media attention, which the court respected. According to the source, the two divorced each other in peace.
The couple announced their break-up on September 13 when Wong wrote on her microblog, "our relationship as a couple ends here. I'm all right. Take care of yourself."
Li then confirmed the split in his own microblog, saying "I need a family, but you are destined to be a legend. I miss all the best times of the past decade. I still love you as I have always done, and I regret that letting you go is the only thing I can do now."
The divorce caused media frenzy after hundreds of reporters waited at the airport to get photos of Wong and Li when they came back to Beijing from remote Xinjiang. Wong’s initial microblog post has been reposted almost 800,000 times.

"The value love brings us derives from the state of being in love," Li said, "The feelings that love brings us are always beautiful, whether in the past, present and future. Once we recognize this, we will realize that certain quarrels and conflicts in our lives are not important. Only after mastering this technique of dealing with love can we move on."
