The Hollywood star was joined by fellow cast member from "47 Ronin" at a press conference in Tokyo.

The film is based on a historical event during the Edo Period of Japan, known in Japanese as "Chushingura."

Although set in a world of fantastical creatures and locations, the production team tried to stay true to the traditions of Japan.

Director Carl Rinsch and Keanu Reeves said they were hesitant at first to make a film based on such deep rooted Japanese values:

"When we started, we thought, 'How are we going to be able to take what is such a time honored tradition and do it justice?' And the way that we determined from the very beginning that we would do it justice was to make it our own, so to speak, to make it a Hollywood blockbuster and see it through that lens," explained the director.

Since the "Matrix" series, Reeves has reportedly been pursuing roles and themes that have been related to martial arts. His directorial debut this year is called "Man of Tai Chi."
