"Frozen" drew an estimate 22.5 million U.S. dollars this weekend, quickly approaching the 300 million dollars mark in North America. It has altogether grossed 549.7 million dollars worldwide so far.

New year's first debut, Paramount's Latino-themed "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" took in a noticeable 17.5 million dollars in the weekend, seizing the second place. It is a strong start for this 5-million-U.S.-dollar budget horror film despite bad weather in the Midwest and Northeast of the United States.

Written and directed by Christopher Landon, "The Marked Ones" stars Andrew Jacobs, Jorge Diaz and Gabrielle Walsh. The film received a "C-" CinemaScore and a 45 percent Rotten Tomatoes " fresh"score.

Warner Bros.' "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"came in the third, with tickets revenue of 17 million dollars for a North American total of 230.4 million dollars.

Rounding out the 10 most popular films in North America this weekend, as estimated by studios, were "The Wolf of Wall Street" (13.7 million dollars), "American Hustle" (13.5 million), " Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" (12 million), "Saving Mr. Banks" (9.7 million), "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"(9.2 million), "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" (8 million) and "Grudge Match"(5.6 million).
