The Grammy Awards will stage a spectacular crossover performance by Chinese classical pianist Lang Lang and legendary heavy metal band Metallica in Los Angeles on Sunday.

"I'm very happy and very excited," Lang Lang told QQ.com at the Grammy Museum before the performance. "Collaborating with Metallica is a big crossover. I have never in my life listened to so much heavy metal music in such a short time! I listen to it 30 times a day."

This is the second time Lang Lang has played at the Grammys. His last appearance was with Herbie Hancock in 2008. Last year, the Grammy producers went to Beijing to propose the performance and collaboration with Metallica.

"The producer wanted to put Chinese musical elements into the performance, but Americans are into their own music styles. It is hard for music from other nations to enter the market, so we decided to fuse our music with heavy metal," Lang said.

According to reports, Lang will perform Metallica's "One" with the band, but Lang revealed that, " it will be very different from the song's original arrangement."

According to Lang, Metallica really put a lot of focus on the performance. "I could hear it from their phone calls," Lang said. "I love their songs, and my friends love them too. They went on tour to China and the tickets sold out in one hour. My performance this time will not be like traditional classical music, I will go step by step, from light to heavy. "

Lang Lang said that the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences wanted to establish a headquarters in China and develop a China Grammy program. He was appointed as Grammy Cultural Ambassador to China by Neil Portnow, president and chief executive of The Recording Academy on Jan. 22, 2014. "If the program is eventually set up, it will benefit both Chinese pop music and the Grammys. This cultural exchange platform will help get Chinese artists on international stage faster," he said.

The Grammy Awards ceremony, known as "Music's Biggest Night," will take place live on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on the CBS Television Network and other TV stations, radio stations and websites around the world. The performers for the 56th Grammy Awards also include Madonna, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Lorde, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift and more.
