Ann An, president of Desen International Media, along with Paul Wagner, producer of the Mission: Impossible trilogy and Naomi Foner, an American screenwriter, attended a press conference for the film held during the ongoing Fourth Beijing International Film Festival in Beijing on April 19.

The film is adapted from the novel of the same name. It tells of a love story between a Chinese nurse called Huang Huanxiao and an American pilot who participated in World War Two in China's Yunnan province.

An, Wagner and Foner will kick off their research for the screenplay of the film by flying to Yunnan where the story is set on Saturday. Foner said she would finish writing the screenplay in July this year. She said that learning about Chinese language and culture was not a problem for her.

"Yes, of course. There's always a cultural barrier. But the fun and pleasure of doing this is to try to cross the cultural barriers in both directions and watch it from a Chinese point of view. But the whole point of this is to know each other better. I'm right in the middle of it. For me it's enormously exciting to try to overcome the things (language and cultural barriers) that you talked about and to get much of the language into the cultures, into the script as much as possible. And in terms of casting, it's the same thing. It's it exciting? Think about our favorite American actors and our favorite Chinese actors in the same movie. I mean that's pretty great. That's all it's about. This is really kind of breakthrough and it's very exciting to be part of it."

An, the film's producer revealed that the cast had not yet been decided but said that they would consider Foner's son Jake Gyllenhaal for a role should he be interested.

Investment into the film will reach more than 200 million yuan. The film will start production during the fourth quarter of this year.
