The 3rd CTPC Cup All China Interpreting Contest (ACIC) |
The interpreting contest finals simulated real life meetings and even offered a simultaneous interpretation booth and equipment for competitors to use. The consecutive interpretation category also created such an atmosphere by simulating meetings or using videos. The subjects covered economy, science and culture.
Yao Mengyao, a veteran translator from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who had formerly translated press conferences for Premier Li Keqiang, was invited to act as a judge. She told China.org.cn that she felt the contest was rather difficult, but contestants performed quite well.
Yet another judge, Lin Jinpan, a freelance simultaneous interpreter, pointed out how some contestants could even be considered excellent. Nevertheless, the majority still needs to train the basic skills for interpretation. She was grateful to be invited to act as a judge and praised the contest, "I have nothing but good words for this contest. When I was a student, there never was such a competition. It can surely inspire students' interest to learn more."
