The 2014 White Nights Music Festival has been held in Russia's northern capital St. Petersburg on July 10-12, featuring a range of international stars as well as young groups from a dozen countries including Russia, the United States and China.

According to event organiser Vladimir Kiselev, the White Nights Music Festival started more than 20 years ago thanks to a signature from former St. Petersburg Deputy Mayor and current Russian President Vladimir Putin.

President Putin offered his greetings to all involved via a video link, wishing success to participants and a memorable experience for the audience.

Chinese group Magic Bus, the official Chinese representatives in the contest section of the festival, offered the Russian public a quality glimpse of contemporary Chinese pop despite failing to win a place.

The band's lead singer Dai Xin said that the group had taken a relaxed attitude to its participation in the festival, viewing it above all as a learning experience.

Held for the first time in 1992, the White Nights Music Festival is considered both a search for young musical talent and an important date on the annual calendar of Russia's artistic and cultural capital.
