Alibaba has officially confirmed that former vice president of China Film Group, Zhang Qiang, will head the Chinese internet giant's film division.
Zhang is now the chief executive of Alibaba Pictures Group.
Through his experience working with China Film Group, one of the country's biggest entertainment players, Zhang has production credits on the successful 2013 film "American Dreams in China" and the 2007 blockbuster drama "So Young."
The new appointment means that the division's acting CEO, Liu Chunning, has stepped down for the position, but will still be on-board as an executive director.
Alibaba acquired production company ChinaVision back in March, which it then named Alibaba Pictures Group.
The purchase gave the internet giant rights to the company's television and cinematic features. Alibaba is on track for an initial public offering in the U.S. later this year that could hit 150 billion U.S. dollars.
