The 18th edition of Portugal's biggest music festival MEO Sudoeste opened on Wednesday in Zambujeira do Mar, Southern Portugal, with megastars performing at the five-day event.

This year's major international performers include David Guetta, Ellie Goulding, SeuJorge, Jamie Cullum and Gentleman.

Portuguese artists include Orelha Negra, Xeg, Dealema, Melech Mechaya and Diabo na Cruz.

The event is organized by Musica No Coracao and will have an economic impact of around 2.5 million euros(3.3 million U.S. dollars) this year.

There will also be a "DJ garden" with artistic installations and graffiti by urban artists, with daily entertainment by a DJ.

Festivalgoers will have free unlimited access to WiFi and the festival has also set an "app" for attendees to communicate through text, images and sound, with a "shakechat" option.

Attendees are also encouraged to collect rubbish and exchange it for priority tickets for entertainment to contribute to a "better environment."
