At the backstage of the show, people can always quickly locate William Fan, as his Asian face made him stand out among the blonde and blue-eyed models.

According to Fan, it was quite spontaneous that he made it to Berlin Fashion Week.

"After I finished my master degree, I tried to apply for the show, " said Fan, "As the people are impressed by my work, they ask me to come. "

The 27-year-old cutting-edge designer, a student at the Art Academy Weissensee in Berlin, presented his first collection under the name "Welcome Home" on Wednesday in front of Berlin's landmark Brandenburg Gate.

"This collection is particularly inspired by Internet," said Fan, "I'm always thinking about the topic 'home'. If you feel home, you will feel safe and protected. So, what's a modern home? I think that Internet is a home for everyone, no matter where you are."

In his runway show, one can see that color scheme of the new collection is restrained, as he applied various shades of green, navy blue or natural tones, while the design showed his minimalist aesthetic concepts, as he used clear lines and functional details in the collection.

"My label is a young, dynamic high-end label," said Fan, whose vision is to offer men and women modern and timeless classics.

As an Asian, there are always some Asian elements in his designing, especially in the details, Fan said, adding that collarless shirts are inspired by Chinese warriors.

When asked how one can dress more fashion-forward, he said that minimalist with a twist is his favorite style. "A nice chic navy coat is the best investment for winter," he added.
