Chen Ye, vice mayor of Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian Province, told reporters on Wednesday in Beijing that the 2nd Silk Road International Film Festival will be held in Fuzhou from Sept. 22 to 26, 2015. The festival is being co-hosted by Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province, and Fuzhou, which means that the festival alternates between being held in Xi'an and being held in Fuzhou.

The Silk Road International Film Festival will focus on film development in countries along the ancient Silk Road. It aims to become the third-largest international film festival behind the Shanghai and Beijing festivals.

"The framework of the festival has already been set up. The theme slogan, logo, trophy and the mascot designs submitted by the public are currently pending approval. Also, invitations for guests and film screenings have all been issued," Chen said. She added that this year's festival will center around the theme of the Maritime Silk Road, focusing on films from the countries and regions along the belt that reflect both ancient and modern civilization.

This festival is a cultural project to promote the implementation of China's "Belt and Road" initiatives, namely the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. According to publicly available information about the festival, it will follow the same format as other film festivals with opening and closing ceremonies, film forums, a film project and copyright trade fair, star-studded premieres, film screenings and a competition section that is a new addition to this year's festival. In addition to the Silk Road International Film Festival, three other film festivals co-hosted by China and foreign countries also held press conferences in Beijing on Tuesday.
