China International Film Festival London

The China International Film Festival London will be held from May 13 to 18. China and the United Kingdom have come together to introduce Chinese films to the U.K. in the hope of motivating filmmakers from both sides to connect and share ideas. More than 20 Chinese films, including "The Taking Of Tiger Mountain,""Wolf Warrior" and "Somewhere Only We Know," will be screened in London.

Carma Elliot, Britain's culture and education minister and director of the British Council, says the festival is a great way for filmmakers from China and the U.K. to connect.

China and the U.K. have just signed a co-production treaty, so this festival will give filmmakers young and old a chance to see that there is now an accessible platform for production between the two countries. The festival will focus on the next generation and making those connections for the future.

Paris Chinese Film Festival

The 10th Paris Chinese Film Festival will be held in Paris from Oct. 27 to Nov. 10. Deanna Gao, the founder and chairman of the festival, said the festival will further promote the film industry's development in China and France and will facilitate the sharing of resources from both sides. She said the festival will also promote Chinese culture overseas.

Fabrice Rousseau, the deputy cultural counselor of the French embassy in Beijing, said that co-produced films, such as the recently released "Wolf Totem" directed by French director Jean-Jacques Annaud, represent unique cultural exchanges between China and France. Rousseau said he hopes the festival will help French audiences learn more about Chinese films and culture.

This year's Paris Chinese Film Festival will celebrate the 110th anniversary of the birth of Chinese films, the 120th anniversary of the birth of French and world films and the 70th anniversary of China's victory against Japanese invasion during World War II. Films and documentaries that focus on these milestones will be screened at the festival, which will also organize several Sino-French film forums.
