Don Hall, director of "Big Hero 6," also came to Beijing to promote the event, which includes a piece of artwork for "Bambi" created by Chinese-born American artist Tyrus Wong.

Hall stressed that drawing is still most important to the history and traditions of Disney, saying that everything starts from sketches, no matter how advanced CGI technology may have become. Hall also drew an impromptu sketch of Baymax, the popular healthcare companion robot character in "Big Hero 6."

The National Museum of China's deputy curator Chen Lyusheng added that Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck were the first animated figures to appear on TV in China in the 1980s. Disney animations have been much loved by Chinese audiences ever since.

The exhibition will run through Aug. 18 in Beijing before moving on to Shanghai, where it will open at the China Art Museum on Sept. 8.
