Chen Kaige's latest film 'Monk Comes Down the Mountain' is released in Chinese cinemas today.

Actors Wang Baoqiang, Aaron Kwok and actress Lin Chiling attended a press conference held in Beijing on Thursday.

At the premiere of the film, actor Wang Baoqiang presented a home-made book to the director in response to his assessment on the performance of the casting members through his official Weibo account.

"I made a special gift for director Chen. It is a book called 'love letter'. It records the whole process of filming, from its shooting to the final editing." The new 3D martial arts action movie is set in China between 1912 and 1949.

It tells the story of a Taoist priest who returns to society after a life of seclusion in the mountains proved to be lonely and boring.

However, a serious of events leads him on a path to mastering the essence of martial arts.

"The Monk" is based on the best-selling novel Dao Shi Xia Shan by Xu Haofeng. Xu's credits include screenwriting for Wong Kar-Wai's recent film, "The Grandmaster."
