Compared with other four rivals, Shen Suyun (Chinese name), a charming girl from South Korea, seemed to be like a Chinese native. She previously studied in Beijing for six years. “China is the home of my childhood.” Shen said.

Speaking of the reason why they take part in the competition, they were all thankful for their Chinese teachers’ encouragement. Li Yue (Chinese name), an American contestant, never thought that he would compete in Chinese Bridge. “I have only studied Chinese for two years. I didn’t think my Chinese was good enough to participate in a global Chinese proficiency competition. But because of my Chinese teacher’s encouragement, I am here. Thank you to my Chinese teacher.”

After the first step -- registering for Chinese Bridge, candidates had to undergo a fierce selection process. Contestants not only took written exams, but also had to demonstrate their artistic talents. Doing Tai Chi, singing Chinese songs, demonstrating calligraphy and performing Beijing opera all reflected their artistic talent and understanding about China.

The Chinese Bridge is just a competition but also a gathering for fans of Chinese language. Contestants came from five different continents. They didn’t know each other until they qualified to go to China to participate in the competition. Friendships built up because Chinese Bridge linked them together. Ni Dongmou (Chinese name), who comes from New Zealand, appreciated this good opportunity to make many new friends from different countries.

The Chinese Bridge has now reached a successful conclusion. The final will be aired on August 27 on Hunan TV.
