The book that reflects Chinese President Xi Jinping's view on governance "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" has been selling well worldwide and the distribution has exceeded 5.2 million, a new record for a book by a Chinese leader.
Zhou Mingwei, president of China International Publishing Group (CIPG), the parent group of the book's publisher Foreign Language Press (FLP), announced the distribution record on Wednesday, the first day of the 22nd Beijing International Book Fair.

Compiled by the State Council Information Office of China, the CCCPC Party Literature Research Office and the CIPG, "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" was published in September 2014 in Chinese, English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Japanese, and distributed worldwide before a launch ceremony for the multilingual editions of the book was held on Oct. 8 of the same year in Frankfurt, Germany.
The publication of this book in various languages will contribute to interpreting the concepts and principles of governance of the new leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and it will help the international community to learn more about and better understand China's ideas, development path, its domestic and foreign policies, and its response to international concerns about China.
Since its publication, the book has reached dozens of countries and regions across the globe, stirring up great sensation wherever it has reached. The United States, Russia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Pakistan and Cambodia are among the countries and regions where promotions have been held with remarkable success. In addition, the book also attracted a lot of attention from world leaders and media who came to China for the APEC China Summit held in Beijing in 2014.
Current and former leaders of many countries, as well as China experts wrote reviews, praising the book highly. Renowned international media, including the Western mainstream media, have published more than 400 reports to comment and promote the book.
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder attended the book's debut at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October last year. He said: "After Xi took office as Chinese president and CPC Central Committee general secretary, the Chinese government has put forward an ambitious and comprehensive reform plan. This book explains the position of the Chinese president and the central leadership of the country. It can help us understand China's politics."
Schroeder said that the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the pursuit of an open, stable and prosperous China are both in Europe's interest.
In a congratulatory message for the book's promotion at BookExpo America (BEA) in May this year, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger described the book as "an eloquent, thoughtful window into a leader, a country, and a millennia-old civilization." He wrote that in the book, President Xi unveiled a series of policies aimed at pushing China's social reforms, as well as ideas about strengthening cooperation with other countries. The veteran U.S. diplomat concluded that the rise of China would have a powerful impact on the world order in the future.
Robert Lawrence Kuhn, a U.S. writer and China expert, said that "Xi's governance book emphasizes improving people's lives, reform, rule of law, and Party building," which are key aspects of Xi's approach to governance.
German Sinologist Ingo Nentwig commented that Xi's book was published at the right time, when many foreigners wished to know how the Chinese leaders could govern such a big country, a question to which the answers were not yet satisfactory. The publication of the Chinese president's book in many languages tries to answer the question, which is very gratifying.
Over the past year, the book has continued to sell well globally; it has received extensive attention from the international community and aroused a great sensation. As the book's global sales keep climbing, more and more international readers will better understand China, as it continues to develop and evolve.
