On the stage,Chen Junhao and his partner Mi Ke performed some of their songs, which were just released on their first album.
Before forming this new band, "Excuse Me", Chen Junhao (陈俊豪) and Mi Ke (米可) joined a BTV singing competition program "Zui Mei He Sheng" (最美和声), literally translated as "the most beautiful harmony" in 2013.
Based on Duets, a seasonal broadcasting American TV singing competition, the Most Beautiful Harmony requires four veteran musicians to perform together with contestants to cultivate new talent on the Chinese pop music stage.
Under the tutorship of Chen Yvfan, from soft rock duo Yu Quan, they finally won fifth place in the final of the national-level competition.
Now two years have passed, and they have released their first album, Exit. At the mention of their mentor, Chen Junhao is full of gratitude.
"The album conveys the flow of positive energy, reminding listeners of finding a way out. My mentor Chen Yvfan has long supported us on our way to realizing our dream. Chen is different from other teachers who might lead their students all the way along, and he would let us fully unleash the force of our creativity."
In "the most beautiful harmony" in 2013, Mi Ke, a contestant from Sichuan Province, captured the attention of the public for her song Your Eyes, sung with Chen Yvfan.
Mi Ke explains the reason why they named the album Exit.
"We've endowed the album with rich meanings by naming it Exit. As soloists, both of us have encountered the down times of being rather perplexed about our future. When we met each other, we'd successfully got out of that situation by forming up into a band. Thus we've had a new start to our career."
Since the launch of Excuse Me just last year, Chen Junhao has also been working as a music producer within the band. He has successfully reproduced highly popular songs for the band like Secret, sung by Taiwan musician Jay Chou, and Bubble, sung by Hong Kong singer-songwriter Gloria Tang. ("不能说的秘密","泡沫")
As his cover version recordings have attracted quite a number of fans, Chen thinks that in the near future they will continue down the route of issuing covers of classic songs.
"We would like to adapt those popular songs into our own band version. Free from the pressure of writing songs, the adaptations test our ablitily to rearrange melodies as well as our performing ability."
However, their first album, which has now been made available online, is said to be made up of songs, all of which were written by Chen himself.
