Ba Jin, originally named Li Yaotang, is one of China's most acclaimed modern novelists. He was awarded the Dante International Prize on April 2, 1982. It's an annual literary prize awarded in memory of the great Italian poet, Dante.
He is best known for the trilogy "Family," "Spring," and "Autumn," which is believed to have inspired millions of Chinese youths in the 1930s and 40s.
In 1975, Ba Jin was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. For his many contributions to Chinese literature, he was awarded a Special Fukuoka Asian Commemorative Prize in 1990.
