Branded as the first festival made for fans, the Baidu Tieba Fan Festival kicked off on a rainy morning in China's capital. According to Baidu statistics, "Tieba," a sort of message board with diverse subjects and themes, has attracted 340 million fans in more than 100,000 Tieba clubs since 2003.

About 70 top Tieba fan clubs set up their booths outside Beijing's famous "Workers Indoor Arena" to show their love for their idols, which include Jackie Chan, the TFBOYS, the EXO, Emma Watson, Eason Chen, Lu Han, T-ara, Jay Chou and Michael Jackson.

Actors Huang Bo, Yang Yang, Zheng Shuang, Qiao Zhenyu and girl band SNH48 appeared in person later at the evening gala of the inaugural award ceremony to award the stars with the biggest appeal and the fan clubs with the highest number of active fans, which have done so much for their idols, earning them high profile societal influences. Huang and many names mentioned above received several awards.

"Throughout the years, the Tieba fan clubs have witnessed and promoted several notable cultural and entertainment sensations including the invasion of South Korean stars into China and the wave of singing-and-dancing contest reality shows," said Lu Fubin, vice president of Baidu Inc. in charge of Tieba business.

He said the Baidu fan clubs have had a great impact on Internet culture and cultural production lines for this particular kind of consumer online and offline. Baidu's Tieba fan clubs mentioned they have proposed the concept of "Fan Power," which has been demonstrated in nearly every aspect ofpop culture, fan events and purchasing power.
