A second-year journalism student won the coveted Miss Togo 2016 crown, the 22nd edition of Togo's beauty contest held on Saturday night in the capital Lome.
D'Almeida Mawubedzro Kokoe Balbina, aged 20 and with a height of 1.8 m, came first among 19 contestants at the final of the national beauty pageant before an audience of about 3,000 people in the Congress hall of Lome.
Kankoue-Aho Kokoe Brenda Eyram, 18-year-old student in management and financing, and Blandeye Ella Fortunee Stephanie, 21-year-old student in certified accountancy came second and third respectively.
Along with the crown, Balbina was granted a Citroen car and 5-million-CFA Franc (8,531-U.S. dollar) funding, a stay in Europe, a year of insurance and a special financing to be offered to her for social development projects.
"I expect to become a very influential presenter and popularize talk-show across the African continent," said the new Miss Togo.
Balbina succeeds the outgoing Adzoh Akou Yayra Gaelle Miss Togo 2015 who ends a year term. She said that she got "the opportunity to go to the school of life" being elected beauty queen.
Beauty queens from Benin, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, France and Congo-Brazzaville were special guests to witness Togo's beauty pageant.
