Macao's Consumer Council said on Friday that it has observed a significant increase in the average price of local canned foods after a price check earlier in December.

Compared with last month, the selling price of 'Gu Long Spiced Pork Cubes (142g)' had been increased by almost 30 percent in two retail outlets sampled by the council in December, and price increases were recorded at two retail outlets for 'Porthos Sardines in Olive Oil (125g)', with a price rise of almost 12 percent.

Meanwhile, the average price of most beverage products has dropped or remained stable in the past three months.

Carlsberg All Malt Premium Beer (can 330ml) records a price drop of almost 10 percent in two retail spots sampled by the Consumer Council. However, a 16 percent and 10 percent increase in price were recorded for Vita Lemon Tea (250ml x 6) and CocaCola- Original (330ml) respectively.

In its latest report, the Consumer Council also said that it will continue to monitor local price trend of both beverages and canned foods in order to provide up-to-date price information to local consumers.
