The death toll in a carbon monoxide poisoning accident rose to ten people after the death of a hospitalized worker on Tuesday in north China's Shanxi Province, according to local authorities.
The accident happened at 1:24 p.m. Tuesday at a power plant operated by Shanxi Antai Group Co., Ltd. in Jiexiu City, said a spokesman with the city government.
Fifteen workers were repairing a boiler at the plant when the accident happened. Two others, who came to rescue, were also poisoned, said the spokesman.
Seven victims are in stable condition and are recuperating in Fenxi Mining Group's general hospital, said authorities.
"The injured have to be under observation for six days before we can be sure that they are out of danger. It takes another 60 days to confirm if they sustain any permanent damage," said a deputy chief of the hospital who only gave his surname as Yang.
The families of the injured have arrived at the hospital.
