Sun is the forerunner of the democratic revolution and also the founder of the Kuomintang, or the Nationalist Party of China.

"I was touched by the 34 drumbeats representing all Chinese and the dance with odes written by Mao Zedong and Sun Yat-sen," said Chan Huei-yuan, who was in attendance from Taipei of Taiwan.

At the annual ceremony, a drum was struck 34 times, once for each Chinese provincial-level region, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

"That is the resonance of our passion as we have common roots here," Chan said. "It is my great honor as a descendent of the Yellow Emperor to come here to commemorate him," said Lau Songxiang, chairman of the Taiwan-based Chinese Enterprise Ring.

Leading a delegation of dozens of Taiwan entrepreneurs, Lau expected to bring technologies in the fields of new energy, environmental protection and modern agriculture from Taiwan to forge cooperation with companies on the Chinese mainland, especially in the western regions.

"It is exciting to see so many Chinese from around the world here at a family reunion. With the eternal bond of Chinese people, I'm confident of a bright future for our cooperation, bringing together the technology and management expertise from Taiwan and the energy and resources on the mainland," Lau said.
