A mainland spokesman Wednesday said any policy on cross-Straits ties if based on a pro-independence standing will jeopardize the exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the mainland.
Yang Yi, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks at a regular press conference while asked to comment on recent speeches by Tsai Ing-wen and Su Tseng-chang, two politicians of Taiwan's main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
"(Such policy) under whatever kind of guise, will hinder the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and impact on the stability of the cross-Straits situation," Yang said.
Tsai Ing-wen, DPP's chairwoman and Su Tseng-chang, former head of Taiwan's executive authority body, have announced their decision to run for leader of the island in next year's election.
