China's universities need to provide more information

Over 76.2 percent of Chinese surveyed online have said university information disclosure in China is not good enough.
About 1,900 people participated in the survey which was published in Wednesday's China Youth Daily and conducted by the newspaper's social investigation center.
Many students about to enter university are resorting to their personal networks to get the information they need.
A university student said recently about 20 strangers, who said they had just enrolled in her university, had contacted her through the popular Chinese social networking website renren.com.
Questions she fielded concerned information about courses, teachers, student societies and student unions, according to the newspaper.
But information collected through such informal channels is usually incomplete and sometimes misleading, and universities should do more to help new students adapt to campus life, the newspaper quoted Liu Xin, a junior student in Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Hubei Province, as saying.
Over 70 percent of the respondents said China's universities need to publish more information about their curriculum, teachers and employment perspectives.
Moreover, 74.6 percent of the respondents said the universities should provide guidance about study and life on their campuses.
Those surveyed said that better information disclosure would help the students to better plan for their futures, and make full use of the resources at the universities.
Universities in China usually start their first semester in early September.
