College enrollment for 2011 is kicking off throughout the country. Peking and Tsinghua Universities have released entry scores as the hot majors of 2011 emerge.
Choosing a major is as important as choosing a university.
Peking University and Tsinghua University have just finished enrollment in Shanghai. Both have sufficient and qualified candidates.
Peking University enrolled 70 students, more than originally planned plus independently recruited students.
Tsinghua University enrolled 136 students in total in Shanghai.
Enrollment-office staff released some hot majors for Shanghai exam takers this year.
Qin Chunhua, enrollment office of Peking University, said, "Exam takers in Shanghai choose majors and universities after the college entrance exam, so they can choose freely based on their likes. Geography, archaeology and astronomy are very popular at Peking University this year."
As well as those mentioned, many Shanghai exam takers are putting mathematics, physics, automotive engineering and psychology as their first choices.
Peking University has added Chemical Biology, Materials Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering for bachelor's degrees. Urban design was added to Tsinghua University's bachelor degree.

For those who can't afford college expenses, Tsinghua University has promised to support them.
Yu Han, enrollment office of Tsinghua University, said, "Exam takers with financial difficulties can call us, we can send them travelling and living expenses.”
So far, the enrollment of national defense students in Both Peking and Tsinghua Universities is still being worked on. Peking University is expected to enroll female national defense students in majors of Psychology, Politics and Public Administration.
