Thirty-two people have been confirmed dead following a rain-triggered landslide that occurred on Saturday in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, local rescue authorities said Thursday evening.

Rescuers recovered the last missing body on Tuesday afternoon, ending the rescue efforts and bringing the final death toll to 32, according to a spokesman from the local rescue headquarters.

A memorial service for the victims was held at the site Thursday afternoon. Rescuers are now trying to identify the deceased, the spokesman said.

The landslide occurred around 2 p.m. on Saturday, burying a brick factory and destroying part of a ceramics plant in Baqiao, a suburban district in the provincial capital of Xi'an.

Three successive landslides occurred due to rains on Sunday, briefly halting the rescue efforts. More than 700 rescuers toiled to remove 280,000 cubic meters of soil during their six-day search, the spokesman said.
