Tsinghua University, one of China's top universities, has brought out 84 billionaire alumni since the reform and opening-up policy was initiated in 1978, according to a survey reported by the Guangzhou Daily on Thursday.
The successful Tsinghua alumni's assets reached 300 billion yuan (US$44 billion), topping China's alumni fortune list, followed by Peking University. The two universities are dubbed "the cradle of billionaires," the report said.
The survey was conducted by www.cuaa.net, a website about alumni associations, and sampled nearly 8,000 people in political, academic and business fields.
China's universities overall have contributed 1,500 billionaires since 1978, with total assets of 4.5 trillion yuan. An overwhelming 61 percent of the billionaires are university graduates, the report said.
