Prosecutors in Danfeng county, Shaanxi Province, have said that a high school student died of torture at a local police station.

China Central Television reported last night that six police officers have been arrested in connection with the death of Xu Gengrong.

Evidence has been gathered against Yan Yaofeng, the police chief of the county, for abuse of power, it said.

Xu died on March 8, after days of torture to extract a confession from him following the murder of a girl student in the same school.
