The total import and export of Shandong province in 2012 came to US$245.54 billion, up by 4.1 percent compared to the same period last year, according to statistics released on Jan.14 by the provincial Department of Commerce.

New markets have become a growth pool of foreign trade for the province in 2012.

Statistics show that in 2012, provincial exports to Oceania, Africa and the ASEAN nations rose by respectively 20.6, 16.7 and 9.5 percent; exports to developed economies such as the United States and Japan increased by 2.3 and 2.6 percent, respectively.

According to the statistics, structural imbalance however is still a serious matter. The export of plastic products, suitcases and bags, furniture, fertilizer and game machines increased rapidly, respectively by 43.5, 37.2, 31.8, 23.7 and 21.4 percent, whereas the proportions of the export of electromechanical and new high technology products are fairly low.
