"The May 12th earthquake hurt our people, but many uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters are helping us. Our new school has already been built; we have received donations and supplies from all over the world. I plan to study hard and invent a machine to control earthquakes, so that no more people will have to suffer as a result of earthquakes," a girl from quake-hit Sichuan Province told guests at the reception. Kungfu superstar Jackie Chan and world famous pianist Lang Lang, who were appointed goodwill ambassadors for UNICEF in 2004, came to the reception to talk to the children. They were both presented with UNICEF awards in recognition of their efforts in helping children.
