John Mayer insists his break-up with Jennifer Aniston hasn't influenced his songwriting.
The "Gravity" singer is about to start work on his fifth album but has denied he will draw on recent events in his personal life for his new material.
He said: "I'll be writing about the same things I always wrote about."
John is enjoying working on his new record as he has decided to write from his Hollywood home and has set himself some strict deadlines.
He told People magazine: "I gave myself a nine to five. I'm making myself wake up and be a writer. It's great."
Despite his insistence at keeping Jennifer out of his music, the singer debuted a new track, "Heartbreak Warfare" during his Mayercraft Cruise concerts last weekend, with many speculating the song was penned following the couple's separation.
The song includes the lines: "Once you want it to begin/No one really ever wins/In Heartbreak Warfare/If you want more love/why don't you say so?/If you want more love/why don't you say so?"
