World renowned film director John Woo was conferred an honorary doctoral degree by Hong Kong Baptist University on Tuesday.
The university conferred honorary doctoral degrees on five distinguished persons for their outstanding academic, research and professional achievements, as well as their remarkable contributions to society.
World-famous filmmaker and director John Woo entered the film industry in 1969. A Better Tomorrow which he filmed in 1986 has made his career a climax. In 1993, Woo made his way to Hollywood where he produced blockbusters like Hard Target, Face/Off and Paycheck and established himself as a big name in North America. His works claimed many respectable awards from Hong Kong and overseas.
Other awardees were revered master of integrative Chinese and Western medicine professor Chen Keji; internationally acclaimed choreographer Lin Hwai-mi; distinguished designer Henry Steiner who is also called "Father of Hong Kong designer" who has made contributions to the design profession receiving recognition worldwide; and prominent scholar in computer science "Father of Fuzzy Logic" professor Lofti A. Zadeh.
