A rare severe cold wave continued to grip North India, claiming at least 114 lives.
Delhi witnessed the coldest day of January on Wednesday, with the maximum temperature plummeting to 1.9 C, which was five degrees below normal. At least 23 deaths were reported in the areas near Delhi, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Jharkhand.
Officials said the entire North India would remain in severe cold until Jan. 4, and temperatures might drop below 1 C.
The lowest temperature recorded in India was -0.6 C in 1936.
