The Sumatran orangutan can be found only on the island of Sumatra, in Indonesia. The species is considered one of "The World's 25 Most Endangered Primates." It is estimated that there are only around 7,300 Sumatran orangutans left in the wild, according to a survey conducted in 2004. The main reason for the endangerment of these orangutans is because of palm oil companies destroying the native rain forests. |
