The Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department
said Monday two birds were confirmed to be H5N1 virus positive
after a series of laboratory tests.
The Chestnut Munia was collected by Department staff on Feb. 18
in the vicinity of St Teresa's Hospital at Prince Edward Road
Westin Kowloon City, following a public referral. The carcass of
the Scaly-breasted Munia was found the next day at the junction of
Sing Woo Road and Wong Nai Chung Road in Happy Valley.
A department spokesman reminded people to observe good personal
hygiene. "They should avoid personal contact with wild birds and
live poultry and clean their hands thoroughly after coming into
contact with them," he said.
